My gripe...

This is my gripe- cake tins. One, why can’t recipes give a proper description of the cake tin you require for the recipe. Not just the width but also the depth. Second, why can’t the cake tin companies put the measurements of the cake tin on the actually cake tin-like engraved  so that after you throw the wrapper away you still know what size cake tin you have.  This would be so helpful!!!

Okay that is my gripe for now.

P.s- I am in the process of decorating a very special cake at the moment (hence my gripe with cake tins!) and will post photos soon!

Conquering my piping fears (and a sugar cookie recipe)

In my last post I talked about how I had just finished up a 4 week cake decorating class. I have to say again how great it was and just how many skills I got from doing this. It’s amazing how many things I learnt in this course that I can now apply to other recipes (or non cake relate recipes). One non cake related recipe I have wanted to try all year are sugar cookies decorated with royal icing.

Cake Decorating Classes-Part 1

I have been very busy for the past few weeks. Doing what you ask. Well I have just completed a 4 week cake decorating course! Now I must admit the course was only once a week and only for 2 hours and it covered fairly basic techniques but I loved it. For years I have struggled with everything icing related. I have struggles with making icing, putting it in the bag, fitting the tips to the bag and of course piping. Well I’m happy to say I have overcome this struggle and am now much more handy around a piping bag. Over the next few weeks I will post some more entries about the basic tips and tricks to cake decorating that I have picked up,  but for now I thought I would leave you with some pictures. Just remember that before this course I was truly horrible so these photos are a BIG improvement for me.
